Let’s talk about my mom’s cooking. Whatever she cooks is always done with such effort and a lot of pride. Anything she makes is always so delicious and screams home cooking. One of my favorite’s is this side dish of her Sour Cream and Onion mushrooms. Now not sure what comes to mind when I say sour cream and onion, but if you are thinking some powdery flavoring from a bag of sour cream and onion chips, believe me these are nothing like that. This decadent recipe starts with buttery sautéed onions and fresh mushrooms and is finished with lots of real creamy sour cream. We usually always have this dish on Thanksgiving or accompanied by her famous Pot Roast and Mashed potatoes . But this is so good with any dish that you love.
What I also really love about a side dish like this is that it only requires 4 easy to acquire ingredients and it’s really beginner friendly but tastes like you spent hours making it. This side dish is so simple, but I promise it will become the star of your dinner table.
Ingredients:
- 2 cartons of slice white mushrooms or baby bellas (if you’re desperate you could even used the canned- this recipe will still be delicious)
- 1 large onion sliced in strips then cut in half
- 1 16 0z container of sour cream
- 1/2 stick of butter
Directions:
Melt butter in a pan and when it starts to slightly sizzle, and add onion and cook until translucent, add mushrooms and really cook down until most of the water has evaporated, around 10-15 minutes. Turn off heat and let sit for about 5 minutes. Once cooled Stir in full container of sour cream and mix really well. Heat back up for about 3 minutes right before ready to serve
