glass of red wine by a fire place

Italian Red wines under $20 that are worth keeping stocked..

Now that the fall is finally upon us, give me all the red wines. There is something about that slight chill in the fall air that gets me craving a nice glass. It’s time to put away the bathing suits and rose` and bring out the nice warm sweaters and warming reds. There is nothing more relaxing than a nice glass of wine with some charcuterie and catching up on your shows.

All the Red wines:

I really like a lot of different types of dry Reds. I’m into the Cabs and the Malbec’s. Napa Valley was one of my favorite places to visit ever. I’ve had some really great wines there. I loved the Groth and Mount Veeder Vineyards so much and still love their wines till this day. Honestly the scenery alone is worth the trip. If you ever get the chance to go, Napa is beautiful.

Italian Red wines:

I truly love Italian reds too. I can drink them alone or while eating a meal. Montepulciano’s and Sangiovese’s are two of my favorites. Italy was next on my list to become one of my “most favorites places”, but Covid blew it for me this year. I guess I’ll just have to keep drinking and dreaming from my living room.

Inexpensive Options:

With that being said, there are plenty to choose from and I like to go off of recommendations, or I’ll make notes of wines that I like that I might have at a party or a restaurant. I found quite a few that are super inexpensive, and I added them to my “keep stocked at home” list. I like to keep a whole bunch of them on hand for a fall night in or to bring for a girl’s night out. Don’t be fooled by the inexpensive price tag, these wines are good, and I totally recommend.

  1. Coming in at around $13.99 this ‘Gabbiano’ Chianti was such a pleasant surprise. I actually enjoyed this glass fireside while vacationing in Palm Springs last December.

2. ‘Terra dei Falchi’ is a nice Chianti under $10 that was a table wine at one of our favorite local Italian spots. It was pretty surprising how crisp and lovely this Chianti was. Paired perfectly with the fresh focaccia and basil oil dip that was also on the table. Yum!

3. ‘La Vendemmia Sangiovese’ – I tasted this last year at our Holiday Party. Also pleasantly surprised by this under $12 wine

4. ‘Santa Cristina Toscana Rosa’, another Sangiovese type of Italian table wine. So surprisingly good at $9.99 a bottle. This is always available at my local liquor store so it’s easy to keep on hand.

5. ‘Zaccagnini Cantini’ is a Montepulciano di Abruzzo. This is another widely available house wine. While it’s dry it’s also very smooth. The bottle is very rustic with some decoration of twigs and raffia wrapped around the bottle. Under $15 in most shops. Find a total wine near you for great deals.
